My Journey So Far (Picture Abhi Bakii hai Mere Dost)
Life Story
I was born in a very remote area of Delhi called Mehrauli, which is in India. My father was in a government job and my mother is a housewife. My father gave me the name “Nikhil Sharma” and after understanding its meaning I became more ambitious. I come from a very middle-class family where almost everyone worked 9 to 5, and this is was enough for us. No one ever dreamt of anything more than this. But since my childhood, I was a free bird, so having to work 9 to 5 felt like a cage for me.
Let me tell you my story of how a very simple boy from a middle-class family aspired to become a freelancing superstar and now works as a digital nomad.
Childhood Story
I am also a common boy like every Delhiite who has grown up in those small streets of Delhi. I was intelligent since my childhood days and used to help my classmates with their studies. Everything was going well. I had family, friends, I mean everything in life and I was very happy.
But little did I know about our declining financial condition because of the expenses of my father’s medicines.
One night there was a Jagrata in our house. My grandmother who lives in Chandigarh also visited our place for the Jagrata. Jagrata was very good and I was also very happy. But I did not know that this was going to be my last night in Delhi, with my family. Due to the declining financial situation of the house, my mother and father decided to send me to Chandigarh for some time.
My train was in the morning, the very next day. So, I didn’t even get a chance to speak to my old friends, or even digest the fact that from now on I will be staying in Chandigarh, it was all of a sudden.
After a few hours, I reached Chandigarh. A completely new city was waiting for me, there were new people, everything was new for me.
Chandigarh Story
Slowly things started getting better. I joined Govt School in Chandigarh. And I also got friends here. Like in Delhi school, I did not top the rank, but I was quite good in some subjects like maths and science.
Gradually my family’s financial condition started getting better. After completing high school I moved back to my hometown, Delhi. I was good at studies, so my family thought that I would get admission to a good school for further studies.
I then prepared for the entrance examination of Navodaya School. I worked really hard for that exam. And the result was fruitful, I topped that entrance exam. Everyone in the family is very happy.
JNV Hostel Story
Â
Â
I was staying in a hostel for the first time in my life. I was a little scared and excited too. Two years passed while I lived in a hostel. That was the best time of my life. I had a lot of fun at the hostel, but also I was beaten up by the seniors, washed their clothes too, and made many friends as well. I will only regret one thing forever. When I was in last year, I started having some Daura due to which I could not give exams.
Back to Chandigarh
Everything changed after dad left us. My mother started working but we didn’t know what my mother worked for. A few days later I found out that my mother does the job of clerk cum guard. I felt terrible that day. I can’t tell you how bad I felt.
After that day all I wanted was to help my mother. With the help of a friend, I got the job of cleaning in a shoe shop. I was so happy that I could help my mother. I would go to the shop every day and quickly sweep the floor and then worked as a salesperson. Some people used to make fun of me by looking at me. But I never mind those things. At the same time, someone told my mother that web design has a lot of scope in the future.
I used to spend all my time learning different designs after coming from work every day. And gradually I started developing more interest in this. I used to spend the whole night working on design, I learned a lot during that time. I used to do designing the whole night then went to work the next morning. It went on like that for some time.
First IT Job
I used to apply for jobs from the classifieds section of the Newspaper. Then one day I got a call from an IT company, they said I was selected for it. But it was not graphic work. Then after working for a few days, I could not see my growth, so I left that company.
Then my luck was finally on my side. Just after leaving the job, I received a call from another company by the grace of God and they were looking for graphic designers. And since then I’ve never looked back. I worked with a very big company as a lead graphic and UI UX designer. Some of the companies I worked in are Jugnoo, Click-Labs, Snapdeal and Sony More.
Goodbye to Corporate Life
I started my travel blog Scoutripper along with my current job in Snapdeal. At that time I did not know much about blogging but I wanted to start my blog because along with the job I started to travel so I want to capture all the moments of my traveling in the form of a blog. I want to pursue my blog full time and want freedom.
But leaving a cozy lifestyle was not so easy because till now I was not earning a single penny from my blog but one day suddenly I made up my mind to leave the job of Snapdeal and start freelancing full time along with my blog. Because in freelancing, I get the freedom to travel and work from anywhere.
Career as a Freelancer and Trekker
I Become Freelance Designer and Trekker
I learned about freelancing from a friend and slowly steadily I start getting projects from freelancing websites like Upwork, Fiverr, and so on. I know my stuff very well and I also got some foreign-based client for a long term work so my finance was going good along with that I started covering trek. And within two years I covered more than 10 Himachal trek and visited more than 8 places near Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. My blog also started growing.
Present
Â
As of now, in 2019 I’ve decided to not travel to a single place because I want to build my empire. My freelancing thing is more powerful so I get proper time to maintain a blog and my career as well. This year my plan is to grow my blog more and travel more.
