Overview

At 14,000 feet, Hampta Pass in Himachal Pradesh offers one of the most dramatic pass crossings in the Himalayas. On one side lies the lush green valley of Kullu, with its forests, grasslands, and trails adorned with blooming flowers. On the other side, the stark, almost arid landscape of Lahaul presents barren mountains with little vegetation. Standing atop the pass, you witness two distinct worlds separated by a matter of minutes.

Hampta Pass is often referred to as Himachal’s Valley of Flowers due to its strikingly similar landscape—a green, narrow valley sheltered by snow-covered mountains. However, Hampta Pass offers an added bonus: the awe-inspiring transition to the starkly contrasting Spiti Valley, known for its barren stretches, rugged terrain, and clear blue skies. The thrill of climbing to Hampta Pass heightens this dramatic change. For trekkers, crossing the pass is an adventurous tale.

The climb involves navigating multiple ledges, each giving the illusion of nearing the top, until you finally reach the summit. Over six days, you traverse from one side to the other, covering 25 kilometers and experiencing the breathtaking contrast between the lush Kullu Valley and the barren Spiti Valley.
