Day 1
Drive from Dehradun to Sankri
Drive from Dehradun to Sankri
The journey to Sankri, located at 1,920 meters (6,400 feet), covers a distance of 220 km and takes approximately 10 hours. As you traverse National Highway 123, the drive is adorned with scenic valleys and forests, offering glimpses of Govind National Park’s unique flora. Arriving in Sankri by evening, you’ll check into a guesthouse or hotel for an overnight stay.

Trek from Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab
Trek from Sankri to Juda-ka-Talab
On Day 2, begin the trek to Juda-ka-Talab, ascending from 6,400 feet to 9,100 feet. This 4 km trek, taking about 2.5 hours, meanders through maple and oak forests, past water streams and meadows. The path features a picturesque lake that often freezes in winter, surrounded by a dense forest. The evening is spent camping near the lake, where you’ll enjoy a hot dinner and the tranquility of nature.

The fourth day starts with an early morning hike to Kedarkantha Peak, reaching 12,500 feet. This challenging 6 km trek, taking about 7 hours, rewards you with panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. After summiting, descend to Hargaon Camp for the night, where you’ll enjoy a hearty lunch and stunning views of the valleys and peaks.

On Day 5, descend from Hargaon Camp (8,900 feet) to Sankri (6,400 feet), a 6 km trek taking approximately 4 hours. The descent through dense pine woodlands is relatively easy compared to the ascent. Upon reaching Sankri, you’ll rest for the night and reflect on the adventure.

Return to Dehradun
Return to Dehradun
On the final day, depart from Sankri early in the morning and drive back to Dehradun, covering the 220 km distance in about 8 to 10 hours. The journey offers beautiful scenic views, and you’ll arrive in Dehradun by evening.

Best Time to Visit Kedarkantha Trek?

The Kedarkantha Trek is a year-round destination, each season offering its unique allure. Winter (December to March) is the most sought-after time, when the trail is blanketed in pristine snow, creating a classic Himalayan wonderland. With temperatures dropping to -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F), trekkers can enjoy clear skies and breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, though it requires preparation for the cold.

Summer (April to June) provides a pleasant alternative, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F) and the snow melting to reveal lush green meadows and vibrant wildflowers, offering a beautiful contrast against the snow-capped peaks. Monsoon (July to September) brings heavy rains, making the trails slippery and challenging, and is generally avoided due to the risk of landslides and poor conditions.

However, autumn (October to November) is another fantastic time to trek, with crisp, clear weather and daytime temperatures ranging from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F), providing unobstructed views of the Himalayan ranges and dry trails. By Train

Dehradun Railway Station (DDN) is well-connected to major cities across India.

  • From Kolkata: The Doon Express operates from Kolkata to Dehradun.

  • From the Railway Station: You can hire a taxi, take an auto-rickshaw, or use local buses to reach your destination within Dehradun.

By Bus

Dehradun is well-connected by road, with several state-run and private buses operating from major cities.

From Delhi: Buses from ISBT Kashmere Gate include Volvo, deluxe, and semi-deluxe options. The journey takes around 6-7 hours.

From Chandigarh: Regular bus services take about 5-6 hours.

From Haridwar/Rishikesh: Frequent buses make the 1.5-2 hour journey.
