Nishat Bagh

Nishat Bagh, one of the most beautiful Mughal gardens in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, is a terraced garden that overlooks the stunning Dal Lake. Built in 1633 by Asif Khan, the brother-in-law of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, the garden is a fine example of Persian-style landscaping, adorned with lush greenery, cascading fountains, and breathtaking views of the Zabarwan Range. The name "Nishat Bagh" translates to "Garden of Joy" or "Garden of Bliss", making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Backdrop

Nishat Bagh follows the classical Mughal Charbagh layout, with 12 terraces representing the 12 zodiac signs, gradually descending towards the Dal Lake. The garden is fed by a central water channel, sourced from the nearby mountains, and features a series of cascading pools and fountains. During the Mughal era, it served as a royal retreat, offering a tranquil escape amidst Chinar trees, vibrant flower beds, and intricately carved stone pathways.
