Best Time to Visit

 

The best time for the Khaliya Top Trek is March to June for pleasant weather and blooming rhododendrons, while September to November offers clear post-monsoon skies and breathtaking Himalayan views. December to February is ideal for those who want to experience a snow-covered landscape, making it a great winter trek. The monsoon season (July-August) is not recommended due to heavy rains and slippery trails.

How to Reach Base Camp

Kathgodam, the gateway to the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, is well-connected by road, rail, and air.

By Air 

The nearest airport is Pantnagar Airport (PGH), about 32 km from Kathgodam.

From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Kathgodam (approx. 1-hour drive).

Limited flights operate from Delhi to Pantnagar, so check availability in advance.

By Train 

Kathgodam Railway Station (KGM) is the last railhead in the region, offering direct connectivity to:

  • Delhi (Ranikhet Express, Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti, Kathgodam Shatabdi)
  • Lucknow, Kolkata, and Dehradun

Trains provide a comfortable and budget-friendly way to reach Kathgodam.

By Road 

Kathgodam is well-connected by state-run and private buses to major cities like:

  • Delhi (Approx. 300 km, 7-8 hours)
  • Dehradun (Approx. 350 km, 9-10 hours)
  • Nainital (Approx. 35 km, 1 hour)

 

You can also hire taxis or drive via NH9 and NH109 for a scenic journey through the hills.
