Chadar Trek

The Chadar Trek is one of the most thrilling and unique winter treks in India, taking adventurers across the frozen Zanskar River in Ladakh. This high-altitude trek is renowned for its stunning icy landscapes, frozen waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs, offering an experience like no other. The name "Chadar" (meaning "sheet") comes from the thick layer of ice that forms over the river, creating a natural path for trekkers. Backdrop

The trek follows an ancient route used by Zanskari locals to travel to Leh during harsh winters when other paths are inaccessible. The frozen river serves as a lifeline for remote villages, and trekkers get a rare glimpse into the hardy lifestyle of the Zanskaris. The trail spans approximately 105 km, with trekkers covering around 15-20 km per day, walking over the ever-changing ice formations. Nerak Waterfall, a stunning frozen cascade, is one of the major highlights of the trek.
