Arrival at Chakki Bank and Transfer to McLeodganj

Arrive at Chakki Bank around 3:30 AM and transfer to a hotel in McLeodganj. Spend the day exploring the local markets, trying out the local cuisine, or resting in your hotel room to recharge. In the evening, meet your guide for a briefing and training session, receive your trekking equipment, enjoy dinner, and rest overnight at the hotel.

McLeodganj to Triund
Start your trek with a 10 km journey to Triund via Dharamkot. Arrive at Triund camp in the afternoon, where you'll have dinner and stay overnight, enjoying the serene beauty of the campsite.

Triund to Lahesh Cave
Triund to Lahesh Cave
After breakfast, embark on a 9 km trek to Lahesh Cave. The route includes crossing bridges and walking through picturesque flowering grounds and forests of oak and conifer trees. Reach Lahesh Cave camp by evening for dinner and an overnight stay.

Lahesh Cave to Indrahar Pass to Chatru Parao
Begin your trek to Indrahar Pass after breakfast, facing a challenging steep climb of 300-400 meters. The stunning views of the Pir Panjal Range and Mani Mahesh Kailash peak from the pass make the effort worthwhile. After soaking in the scenery, trek back to Chatru Parao for dinner and an overnight stay at the camp.

Chatru Parao to Kuarsi
Chatru Parao to Kuarsi
Start the day with a 15 km trek to Kuarsi. Follow the trail along the left side of the valley, cross a bridge, and trek through meadows to reach Kuarsi. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at Kuarsi camp.

Kuarsi to Machetar to Chamba
Kuarsi to Machetar to Chamba
After breakfast, trek downhill for 16 km to Machetar. Drivers will be waiting to transfer you to Chamba, where you'll have dinner and stay overnight at the Chamba Forest Rest House.

Chamba to Pathankot to Delhi
Chamba to Pathankot to Delhi
Have breakfast, pack your belongings, and head back to Pathankot. Board the train from Pathankot to Delhi at 11:55 PM for an overnight journey.

Best Time to Visit

 

The best time to visit the Indrahar Pass Trek is from May to October. During May and June, the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 20°C, offering lush greenery and blooming rhododendrons. The monsoon season from July to August brings heavy rainfall, making the trails slippery but providing verdant landscapes and fewer crowds. The post-monsoon period from September to October is ideal, with clear skies, stable weather, and vibrant autumn foliage, making for a comfortable and visually stunning trekking experience. It is generally not recommended to trek from November to April due to heavy snowfall and impassable trails.

How to Reach Base Camp

 

By Air:

Kangra Airport, also called Gaggal Airport, is the closest landing near Dharamshala. You can take cars and buses from the airport.

 

By Road:

All the major cities of North India, including Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali, Srinagar, and Dehradun are very well connected to Dharamshala. You can come by state-owned buses, private cabs and taxis.

 

By Rail:

The nearest Railway station is Pathankot railway station. It is 84.5km away from Dharamshala.
